Cert Octavian has been working with global cosmetics, fragrance and skincare company Coty Inc. since 1990. Coty is the world's largest manufacturer of mass-market fragrances, and works with international brands and celebrities including David Beckham, Kate Moss and Calvin Klein.

Challenge
Coty supplies products to major multiples, independent retailers and pharmacies across the globe, and has a customer base of thousands. Therefore, they were looking for more than just a logistics supplier. They needed a partner who could handle both their logistics and packaging requirements, and guarantee that stock could be delivered on time and in full. Being able to store large volumes of aerosol products was also a necessity.

Solution
Cert Octavian’s Rotherham site provides a one-stop solution that meets Coty’s distribution and product configuration needs, including shelf-ready packaging and gift pack production. Cert Octavian stores up to 17,000 pallets for Coty and dispatches over 5.5 million cases per year. Cert Octavian not only distributes Coty’s stock nationwide, but also assembles around 3 million gift packs and reconfigures 5 million other products, handling over 20 million components for Coty.

Since joining with Cert Octavian, Coty has grown considerably in size, and has significantly increased its product offering. Thanks to their commitment to the brand, Cert Octavian has successfully managed this growth, and continues to offer an unrivalled service that fully meets Coty’s needs. For example, in response to increased demand for gift packs throughout the year, Cert Octavian invested in a 6,000 sq ft mezzanine floor extension at its Rotherham Service Centre. The new floor created a continuous working area totalling 12,500 sq ft, wholly dedicated to gift pack assembly. The site was further developed to incorporate a 20,000 sq ft single storey extension that increased the number of pallet locations from 10,500 to 15,500, and the overall size of the site to 90,000 sq ft. This allows Cert Octavian to handle all of Coty’s UK-based promotional packing needs.

To meet Coty’s aerosol requirements, Cert Octavian has invested heavily in the Rotherham site to achieve Top Tier COMAH status. The site is fully accredited to work with large volumes of LPG and has 6,000 specially engineered pallet positions in place, specifically for aerosol products.

Results
Year on year, Cert Octavian has continued to deliver exceptional levels of service to both Coty and Coty’s customers. Figures for 2007 show excellent levels of delivery performance with an on time, in full delivery rate of 99.8%. Ultimately, actions speak louder than words, and Coty’s 18-year relationship with Cert Octavian says it all.
