Cert Octavian announces portcentric partnership with PD Logistics

14th November 2007
Cert Octavian, the UK's leading provider of Premium Product Logistics services, has unveiled a bonded warehouse facility at Felixstowe, in partnership with PD Ports' logistics arm, PD Logistics.

The announcement comes in response to customer demand, due to an increase in products from Australasia being transported into British ports. The industry-wide call for transport and warehousing solutions that also offer environmentally friendly benefits is putting increasing pressure on suppliers to find alternative methods of fulfilling their supply chain requirements. As the volume of containerised goods arriving at UK ports continues to rise, portcentric logistics is an increasingly attractive solution, which allows importers to unpack the container and leave it at the port ready for repositioning. Warehousing facilities at the port ensure goods are stored, loaded and delivered in the most efficient way.
Teaming up with PD Logistics has enabled Cert Octavian to offer portcentric logistics to its customers. Cert Octavian will ensure that the drinks sector benefits from access to bonded warehousing and the associated business advantages it can bring, such as minimising quay rent, detention-demurrage charges and deep-sea freight costs. Another benefit is that unpacking and leaving the container at the port effectively eliminates a link from the supply chain, and allows for direct transportation from the warehouse to customers, significantly reducing carbon emissions.

Michael Lainas, managing director, Cert Octavian, said: "Partnering with PD Logistics allows us to offer a dedicated bonded warehousing facility at Felixstowe, and helps boost our customers' productivity, particularly during peak times. Portcentric logistics has been popular with retailers for a while, but is a relatively untapped resource in the drinks sector - Cert Octavian is keen to demonstrate the business and environmental benefits that this can bring."

Malcolm Dodd, general manager, PD Logistics, added: "We are pleased to be able to support Cert Octavian in offering an innovative business solution that can minimise cost and carbon emissions for customers."
